Switzerland Kicks Off World Cup with 2-0 Win Over Philippines

Switzerland made a winning start to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Friday, defeating the Philippines 2-0 at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Ramona Bachmann scored the first goal for Switzerland in the 45th minute from the penalty spot. Serena Severin Peubel added the second goal in the 65th minute.

The win puts Switzerland atop Group A with three points. The Philippines, meanwhile, opens the tournament with a loss.

Canada and Nigeria played to a scoreless draw in the other Group A match on Friday.

Switzerland will face Canada next Tuesday, while the Philippines will take on Nigeria on Wednesday.
