Women’s World cup-Spain Crush Costa Rica, 3-0
Spain made a statement in their opening match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, crushing Costa Rica 3-0 on Thursday.
The Spanish controlled the match from start to finish, creating several chances and scoring three goals in the first 27 minutes. Valeria del Campo scored an own goal in the 21st minute, and Aitana Bonmati and Esther Gonzalez added goals in the 23rd and 27th minutes, respectively.
Jennifer Hermoso missed a penalty in the 34th minute, but it was a minor blemish on an otherwise dominant performance from Spain.
On Thursday, Canada was held to a 0-0 draw with Nigeria in the other Group C match. Switzerland also won their opening match, defeating the Philippines 2-0.
