Norway Crushes Philippines, Advances to Round of 16
Eden Park, Auckland – Norway cruised to a 6-0 victory over the Philippines in their final Group A match on Sunday, thanks to a hat-trick from Sophie Roman Haug.
Haug scored in the sixth minute and doubled Norway’s lead in the 17th. Caroline Graham Hansen made it 3-0 in the 31st before Alicia Barker’s goal gave Norway a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime.
Guro Reiten added a fifth goal from the penalty spot in the 53rd, and Haug completed her hat-trick in injury time to seal the victory.
The win ensures Norway’s place in the knockout stages, while the Philippines are eliminated.
Haug was the star of the show for Norway, scoring three goals and providing an assist. Graham Hansen was also impressive, scoring one goal and creating several chances.
The Philippines could not cope with Norway’s attacking prowess, and they were reduced to 10 players in the second half after Sophia Harrison was sent off.
The victory is a significant boost for Norway, who were under pressure after losing their opening two games. They will now be confident of going deep into the tournament.
Morocco also advances
In other Group H action on Sunday, Morocco beat South Korea 1-0 to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.
Ibtisam Jaraidi scored the game’s only goal in the sixth minute, and Morocco held on for the win despite late pressure from South Korea.
Morocco will face Colombia on Wednesday, while South Korea will take on Germany.
