Nepal to Host Asia Rugby U-20 Sevens Tournament
Nepal will host the Asia Rugby U-20 Sevens Tournament on August 19-20 at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar. The tournament will feature seven men’s and three women’s teams across Asia.
This is the second time that Nepal will host a major international rugby tournament. In 2022, Nepal successfully hosted the Asia Rugby U-18 Sevens.
The men’s teams competing in the tournament are India, Thailand, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, and Nepal. The women’s teams competing are Nepal, Thailand, and Malaysia.
The tournament is expected to cost 72 lakh rupees to organize. The winner of the tournament will receive a trophy.
The rugby associations of 35 countries that have received membership in Asia Rugby will broadcast the tournament live.
Closed training of the Nepali U-20 women’s and men’s national teams is being conducted in Pokhara for the tournament. Sri Lankan coach Wijelath Sen has said that the training given by Sri Lankan coach Wijelath Sen since last June 30th, and the team is confident of getting good results.
The tournament is a significant opportunity for Nepal to showcase its rugby talent to the world. The Nepali teams are confident of performing well in the tournament and look forward to bringing the trophy home.
