Germany Eliminated from the Women’s World Cup
Two-time champions Germany were eliminated from the FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage on Wednesday after being held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea.
The result leaves Germany in third place in Group H, with four points from three games. South Korea, meanwhile, remain bottom of the group with one punch.
South Korea took the lead in the sixth minute through Cho So-hyun, but Alexandra Pope equalized for the Germans in the 42nd minute. Pope then had a goal ruled out for offside in the 58th minute, as Germany were denied a late winner.
The result means that Germany will not be appearing in the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
