Nepal to Play Practice Match Against Thailand Ahead of ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Asia Qualifier
Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has announced that the Nepali women’s cricket team will play a practice match against Thailand on August 28 in Malaysia. The game will be held two days before the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup Asia Qualifier starts, which will be held in Malaysia from August 31 to September 9.
Nepal is in Group A of the Asia Qualifier, Bahrain, Bhutan, Malaysia, Qatar, and the UAE. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, with the semi-finals winners qualifying for the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024.
CAN has named a 14-member squad for the Asia Qualifier, led by Rubina Chhetri. The team includes three newcomers: Rubi Poddar, Khushi Dangol, and Pooja Mahato.
Podar is a 19-year-old right-arm medium-fast bowler from Kathmandu. She has represented Nepal at the Under-19 level.
Dangol is a 20-year-old left-arm spinner from Chitwan. She has also represented Nepal at the Under-19 level and has been a regular Nepali women’s team member in recent years.
Mahato is a 21-year-old right-handed batter from Kathmandu. She has played for the Nepali women’s team in the past, but this will be her first appearance in an ICC tournament.
The Nepali women’s team is looking to qualify for the first time for the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup. They must perform well in the Asia Qualifiers to achieve their goal. The practice match against Thailand will be a good opportunity for the team to get some match practice and fine-tune their preparations for the Asia Qualifier.
