Chennai FC Cruises Past Tribhuvan Army FC to Enter Durand Cup Quarterfinals
Chennai FC cruised to a 3-0 victory over Tribhuvan Army FC in their second match of the Durand Cup on Monday. Farooq Choudhary, Rahim Ali, and Mohammad Rafiq scored one goal each for Chennai, who have now won both of their matches in the tournament and qualified for the quarterfinals.
Chennai took the lead in the 22nd minute through Choudhary’s header. Ali doubled the lead in the 40th minute with a clinical finish, and Rafiq sealed the victory with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Tribhuvan Army FC was never in the game and struggled to create chances against a well-organized Chennai defence. The Nepali side is now bottom of Group E with one point from two matches, while Chennai have topped the group with six points.
This was a comprehensive victory for Chennai FC, who showed they are among the favourites to win the Durand Cup this year. They have a strong squad with a good mix of experience and youth and are playing excellent football.
Tribhuvan Army FC will be disappointed with their performance, but they can take some positives from the fact that they competed well against a strong Chennai side.
