Mohun Bagan Defeat Machhindra FC 3-1 to Advance to AFC Cup Playoffs
Mohun Bagan, Super Giant of India, defeated Machhindra Football Club of Nepal 3-1 in Wednesday’s second round of the AFC Cup Qualifiers.
Anbar Ali scored two goals, Jason Cummings scored one for Mohun Bagan, and Mosoke Olomaou scored for Machhindra.
The match was played at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, India.
Mohun Bagan took the lead in the 39th minute through Ali, who headed Hugo Boumous’ corner onto the post.
Cummings doubled the team’s lead in the 59th minute, beating the offside trap, tricking Machhindra’s captain, goalkeeper Bishal, and scoring at the empty post.
Olomaou scored in the 78th minute to make the game 2-1, but Ali scored again in the 86th minute to seal the victory for Mohun Bagan.
Mohun Bagan has advanced to the playoffs’ final with the win, where they will face Bangladeshi club Avahani Limited FC. Avahani defeated Maldives club Eagles 2-1 in the other match played on Wednesday.
The playoff winner will qualify for the group stage of the AFC Cup.
