Nepali Teams Shockingly Fail to Qualify for PMGC 2023
In a thrilling culmination of the PUBG Mobile Pro League South Asia Championship (PMPL SA) this past Sunday, the spotlight shone brightly on the remarkable triumph of the Mongolian juggernaut, Stalwart Esports (STE), as they secured the coveted top prize and punched their ticket to the highly anticipated PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2023.
STE’s performance throughout the tournament was spectacular, amassing a formidable 208 points, an impressive 26 points ahead of the runners-up, 4 Miracle Vibes (4MV). Their triumphant display in three out of the six intense matches that comprised the final day further underscored their dominance, leaving an indelible mark of supremacy.
The PMPL SA featured the participation of five Nepali teams, each harbouring dreams of PMGC glory. Regrettably, they were still trying to secure that elusive qualification. The highest-placed Nepali contender was Raw Esports, who valiantly clinched the seventh position with 158 points. Despite an impressive start that saw them claim third place after the first day, Skylight Gaming struggled mightily in the concluding phase, encountering difficulties in all five matches. (DRS) Da Real Soldier, another Nepali contender, shared a similar narrative, exhibiting promise early on with a commendable sixth-place ranking but ultimately slipping to the 10th spot.
Looking forward, the PMGC 2023 will unfold in Turkey from November to December, where the top 6 teams from the PMPL SA will converge with formidable adversaries from other regions. With a staggering prize pool in millions, the PMGC remains the zenith of PUBG Mobile esports competition globally.
Key takeaways from the PMPL SA showcase STE’s undeniable dominance, with a resounding victory in three of the final day’s six matches. Conversely, Raw Esports, Skylight Gaming, and DRS demonstrated a promising start to the tournament but grappled on the tournament’s concluding day, resulting in their unfortunate exclusion from the top 6. Tragically, no Nepali team secured the cherished PMGC qualification.
For the Nepali esports community, this outcome represents a significant setback. The PMGC is the ultimate platform for showcasing talent globally, and the absence of Nepali representation is disheartening. However, there is a silver lining in Raw Esports’ commendable seventh-place finish, signalling the steady improvement of Nepali teams.
Amidst the disappointment, the Nepali esports community must continue to rally behind its teams, providing unwavering support and fostering their growth. With determination and dedication, Nepali teams could one day rise to the occasion and secure their place in the prestigious PMGC.
