Nepal and Oman Vie for Top Spot in ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers Final

Kathmandu, Nepal – In a highly anticipated showdown at the Kirtipur Tribhuvan University cricket ground, Nepal’s home team has opted to field first against Oman in the pivotal final match of the group stage within the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers.

Nepal skipper Rohit Kumar Paudel won the toss and elected to field. Both teams from Group A remained undefeated throughout the tournament. The stakes are high, as the winner of this match will top the group and gain a favourable advantage heading into the semifinals.

Nepal and Oman have displayed impressive form throughout the tournament, with Nepal convincingly defeating Malaysia and Singapore by 8 and 6 wickets, respectively. Oman has also been dominant, defeating Malaysia and Singapore by 32 and 22 runs, respectively.

Nepal holds a significant advantage regarding the head-to-head record, having won three previous encounters between the two teams. The most recent meeting, on February 24, 2022, saw Nepal triumph by a commanding 9-wicket margin.

However, Oman had the upper hand in their initial face-off in 2019, securing a 6-wicket victory when Nepal could only muster 39 runs.

The teams that advance to the finals of this eight-team tournament will earn the coveted qualification for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in the next year, making the stakes even higher in this contest.
