Nepal and Oman clashed in a thrilling ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier final, with Oman emerging victorious in a dramatic Super Over contest to secure their place in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Nepal batted first and posted 184 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, with Gulsan Jha scoring a blazing 54 runs and captain Rohit Paudel anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 52. Bilal Khan was the pick of the Oman bowlers with 3 wickets, while Aquib Ilyas and captain Jason Maqsood chipped in with 2 and 1 wicket, respectively.
Oman’s response was formidable, with opener Kashyap Prajapati leading the charge with an impressive 63 runs. He formed crucial partnerships with Aquib Ilyas (33 runs) and Jason Maqsood (26 runs). Oman needed 8 runs in the last over, but Nepal’s bowler kept the pressure on, and the match went down to the wire. Oman scored 1 run off the last ball, pushing the contest into the Super Over.
In the Super Over, Oman posted a challenging 21 runs on the board, and Nepal’s response fell just short, as they could only manage 10 runs. Oman emerged victorious in a nail-biting finish, securing their ticket to the T20 World Cup.
