Birgunj United grabs the first point in the NSL.

In a pulsating encounter under the floodlights of Dasharath Stadium, Birgunj United FC battled valiantly to secure their first point in the ongoing Nepal Super League (NSL) season, holding Lalitpur City FC to a 2-2 draw.

Despite starting the game as the underdogs, Birgunj defied expectations and took the lead early on through William Opku Asedu’s strike in the 10th minute. The joy was short-lived, as Lalitpur City FC responded with a quickfire double whammy.

First, Eamon Ezekiel produced a moment of magic in the 13th minute, equalizing it with a stunning goal. Then, capitalizing on Birgunj defender Jaje Gustavo’s error, Nikhil Kadam put Lalitpur ahead in the 27th minute.

But Birgunj refused to surrender. Kripa Kant Tharu, the man of the moment, restored parity in the 52nd minute, tapping home the rebound from William’s free-kick. Tharu’s goal silenced the Lalitpur crowd and marked a turning point in the game.

Birgunj grew in confidence and created several scoring opportunities. Jay Gurung’s powerful strike rattled the second bar, while goalkeeper Deep pulled off a stunning save to deny Anant’s free-kick in the match’s dying moments.

The final whistle blew, and both teams had to settle for a point apiece. While Lalitpur missed the chance to climb to the top of the table, Birgunj’s fighting spirit and newfound confidence will undoubtedly send shivers down their opponents’ spines in the upcoming matches.
