Sudur Paschim Nine-Wicket Win Over Lumbini
Sudurpaschim Province secured their first-ever win in the Prime Minister’s Cup Women’s Twenty20 national cricket tournament, defeating Lumbini Province by a convincing nine-wicket margin. This landmark victory earned Sudurpaschim two crucial points from two games and injected much-needed confidence into their young team.
Sudurpaschim’s bowlers set the tone for the win by restricting Lumbini to a modest total of 71 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Saraswati Pun, Asma Pulami Magar, and Sushmita Bajgai were the only bright spots for Lumbini’s batting lineup, chipping in with valuable contributions but ultimately falling short of building a significant score.
In response, Sudurpaschim’s chase was clinical and composed. Openers Kabita Joshi (24*) and Rewati Dhami (17*) stitched together a crucial 41-run partnership, laying the foundation for the victory. Ruby Poddar added a quick 14 runs to propel Sudurpaschim past the finish line in 9.5 overs, losing only one wicket.
The win marks a significant turning point for Sudurpaschim cricket, showcasing their potential and silencing any doubters who might have dismissed them as underdogs.
Meanwhile, despite their first defeat, Lumbini still occupies a respectable position in the tournament table with two points from two games.
