Jhapa 11 Outmuscle Redhorse in Panchthar Gold Cup Thriller
Panchthar: Jhapa 11 Football Club met the crowd’s expectations, edging out Redhorse Football Club Elam 1-0 in a pulsating quarter-final encounter at the 4th Panchthar Gold Cup. The victory propelled Jhapa into the semi-finals, where they’ll face a stern test against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
Jhapa, fielding a blend of talented youngsters, started cautiously against a Redhorse side boasting A Division and Nepal Super League experience. The first half was a tense affair, with both teams cancelling each other out.
However, the deadlock was broken in the 64th minute with a moment of individual brilliance. Nikesh Shrestha whipped in a pinpoint free-kick, which Pradeep Budhathoki met with a powerful header that bulged the net. Budhathoki’s clinical finish sent the crowd into raptures and proved the match-winner.
Redhorse refused to lie down, launching wave after wave of attacks in search of an equalizer. They came close several times, with missed opportunities in the 60th, 72nd, and 77th minutes sending shivers down the Jhapa spine. Babin Bohora nearly doubled Jhapa’s lead in a one-on-one situation, but his shot sailed wide, while Ilam’s Bibek Magar produced a superb save to deny Pradip Budhathoki a second goal.
Despite their valiant efforts, Redhorse couldn’t find a way past a resolute Jhapa defence. The final whistle blew, sending Jhapa into the last four and leaving Redhorse’s dream run in tatters.
Budhathoki’s match-winning header earned him the MVP award and a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
The thrilling encounter drew a crowd of 1,432 on the second day, adding to the electric atmosphere at the Panchthar Stadium. The ultimate winner will lift the coveted Panchthar Gold Cup trophy and a whopping Rs 5,05,000 prize money, while the runner-up will walk away with Rs 2,55,000.
All eyes now turn to Monday’s match, where Pathri 11 lock horns with Bagmati Football Club Sarlahi in another eagerly anticipated clash.
