Church Boys Clinch 6th Jhapa Gold Cup Title in Spectacular Fashion

Birtamod, Falgun 28 – Church Boys United, led by Nigerian striker Abayomi Oluwaseun Fakunle, secured the prestigious Jhapa Gold Cup championship in a thrilling display of football prowess. Their triumphant victory unfolded in a spectacular final match on Monday, where they defeated the formidable APF FC with an impressive scoreline of 3-0.

Fakunle’s exceptional performance was the cornerstone of Church Boys’ success. He netted two brilliant goals, while Rajesh Pariyar added one to seal their triumph. The victory crowned Church Boys champions and marked their debut participation in the tournament. This feat resonates with their unwavering dedication and skill on the field, inspiring all who witnessed their journey.

Fakunle showcased his finesse early in the intense showdown, breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute with a clever strike past APF’s goalkeeper Anjal Shrestha. His second goal in the 72nd minute demonstrated sheer brilliance as he outmanoeuvred the defence and precisely found the net. The final blow came from substitute Rajesh Pariyar in the 87th minute, further solidifying Church Boys’ dominance in the match.

Despite APF’s formidable reputation and aspirations for their maiden championship title, they faltered under the relentless pressure exerted by Church Boys. The absence of a head coach on both sides added an intriguing dimension to the contest, with Reuben Rai and Sushil assuming leadership roles for Church Boys and APF.

Church Boys remained undefeated throughout the tournament, a testament to their impeccable teamwork and strategic insight on the field. Their remarkable journey culminated not only in clinching the title but also in earning accolades across various categories. Deep Karki emerged as the best goalkeeper, Serge Dika as the best defender, and Fakunle claimed the best scorer and forward titles. Sharan Basnet of APF was recognized as the best midfielder, underscoring the exceptional talent showcased by players from both teams.

Suraj Jiu Thakuri’s stellar performance earned him the coveted title of the Man of the Match, further highlighting Church Boys’ dominance in the tournament. The awards ceremony, graced by distinguished guests including Member of the House of Representatives Bishwa Prakash Sharma and ANFA President Pankaj Nembang, celebrated the outstanding achievements of the teams and players. This recognition of individual brilliance added to the audience’s pride in Church Boys’ victory.

Reflecting on their historic victory, Church Boys president Reuben Rai attributed their success to the players’ relentless dedication and strategic planning.
