Brothers United Grab Dramatic victory over Suncity
In an electrifying clash at the Saraswati Ma Bi Ground in Mechinagar-4 Bahundangi, the Kargil Martyr Suresh Thapa Chhetri Memorial 2nd JCI’s Knockout Football Tournament witnessed a thrilling showdown between Brothers United Chandragadi and Suncity Club SalakPur, Ilam. Organized by the Bhaundangi Jaycees and strongly supported by the Jhapa Gold Cup and the District Football Association Jhapa, the match showcased remarkable talent and fierce competition.
Despite Suncity controlling the ball for most of the match, Brothers United struck the decisive blow. Sanjeep Giri’s composed finish right before the half-time whistle sent his team into the break with a slender lead. Aayush Shrestha from Suncity showed great determination, leading the charge in the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net due to the solid defence from Brothers United.
In the second half, Suncity peppered the Brothers United goal, with Aayush Shrestha leading the charge. However, the Brothers United defensive line stood firm, thwarting everything Suncity threw at them. The tension escalated further when Suncity’s Biplov Tamang received a card for a reckless challenge on Shakti Rai, giving Brothers United a penalty. The drama intensified when Brothers United’s Bikash Thulung missed a penalty in the 80th minute.
In a moment of brilliance, Brothers United goalkeeper Dipanshu Raut emerged as the hero. He made a stunning save to deny Suncity the equalizer deep into injury time, securing a hard-fought win for his team.
Sanjeev Giri’s goal and overall performance were recognized, and he was deservedly named the Player of the Match. Brothers United’s win sends them to the next round, where they must face home team Bahundangi Youth Club in a semifinal clash.
