Birtamod United Clinch Championship Title

Birtamod United FC, a team that has etched their name in the history books of the 3rd Adarsh Challenge Cup, conquered the tournament with a resounding 3-0 victory over India’s Maneybhanjyang FC in the pulsating final at Buddhashanti. Their triumph, a testament to their hard work and dedication, not only brings home the coveted trophy but also a lucrative cash prize of 2 lakh rupees for the dominant Nepali outfit.

Maneybhanjyang FC, despite a valiant effort, fell short of glory, settling for the runner-up position and a consolation prize of 1 lakh rupees. The Indian side, hampered by the absence of two key players from the previous match, showed great sportsmanship and respect, even in defeat, unable to match Birtamod United’s relentless intensity.

The Birtamod juggernaut was unstoppable from the get-go. Defender Debendra Tamang, a revelation throughout the tournament, rose highest to head home the opening goal in just the 7th minute. The match was marked by intense back-and-forth action, with both teams displaying their skills and determination. Captain Aashish Chapagai doubled the lead in the 24th minute, expertly converting an assist from Abhishek Gurung. Chapagai wasn’t done there, adding the final nail in the coffin with a clinical strike deep into injury time, putting the game firmly out of reach for Manevnjang FC.

Bishal Darji, a rock at the back for Birtamod United, was deservedly named Player of the Match, taking home a cash prize of 3,000 rupees for his stellar performance. The tournament also saw individual brilliance recognized, with Ashish Chapagai (best striker), Biren Pradhan (best defender), Yogesh Gurung (best midfielder), and Sandeep Limbu (best goalkeeper) each receiving accolades and a cash prize of 5,000 rupees. Debendra Tamang, who consistently displayed exceptional defensive skills and contributed crucial goals, secured the prestigious title of the tournament’s best player. Coach Ramesh Gurung’s strategic guidance and leadership were instrumental in Birtamod United’s dominance, earning him the title of best coach.

The Adarsh Challenge Cup, a highly anticipated eight-team tournament, featuring two sides from India, is a significant event in the local and regional sports scene. It provides a platform for exciting football and exceptional sportsmanship. Manesh Dahal, the sports coordinator, confirmed the continuation of the Adarsh Challenge Cup, with the next edition kicking off on Baisakh 15th.

Beyond the on-field action, the tournament’s closing ceremony honoured legendary figures in Nepali sports. Anjila Tumbapo, captain of the National Women’s Football Team, was honored with a well-deserved cash prize of 25,000 rupees in recognition of her leadership and significant contributions to the sport. Athletes like Jeevanath Adhikari, Bhaichung Sherpa, Eliza Ghimire, Chandra Pulami Magar, and Reshma Bhujel were also acknowledged for their outstanding performances and contributions. The late Ref Lokraj Dhungana and former player Binod Gurung were posthumously honoured for their dedication to the sport and their lasting impact on Nepali football.
