Seleção Sails Past Finns in Euro Warm-Up: Fernandes Grabs Brace

Lisbon, Portugal: Portugal completely dominated the game at the Estádio José Alvalade, cruising to a comfortable 4-2 victory over Finland in a warm-up match for Euro 2024. The night’s hero was Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, who scored two goals, while Ruben Dias and Diogo Jota also got on the scoresheet.

Right from the start, the Portuguese team clarified who was in charge. Dias, a solid pillar in defence, rose above everyone else to score the opening goal with a powerful header in the 16th minute. Jota calmly converted a penalty just before halftime, doubling Portugal’s lead.

Fernandes stole the spotlight in the second half, notching a well-taken strike in the 56th minute. It seemed like Portugal was cruising to an easy win. However, Teemu Pukki had other ideas. The Finnish striker showed his predatory instincts, scoring two quick goals in the 72nd and 76th minutes, setting up an exciting finish.

But Portugal refused to be denied. With just four minutes left, Fernandes stepped up again, securing his second-night goal and sealing the victory. The Seleção can be pleased with their attacking performance, although a late defensive lapse reminds them to tighten up before the Euro campaign.
