Windies won with a Bang, beating Uganda in Group C

Windies returned to form with a dazzling 134-run victory over Uganda in Guyana. This win takes them to second position in Group C, with an all-win record of two matches and four points. It keeps Uganda on a precipice with hopes of qualification.

Batting first and considered a great decision, scoring 174 runs is not the cheapest of targets. Building on sets of 44 by Johnson Charles, of course, the innings built through were laid by Andre Russell’s unbeaten 30. Shamarh Brooks made 22, Pooran 22, and Brandon King 13. Uganda’s bowlers found the going tough, with only captain Brian Masaba having some respectability with the economic side, having taken two wickets to his name.

Uganda’s inning was helpless. The line could never stand firm against the remarkable Windy’s bowling and got bundled out for a meagre 39 on the board in only 12 overs. Outstanding Akil Hosein picked up the wrecking figures of 5 for 11, with Alzarri Joseph taking two wickets. Romario Shepherd, Andre Russell, and Gudakesh Motie were the other bowlers among the wickets. The only battler for the Ugandan team was Zuma Miyagi, who remained unbeaten with a score of 13.

A dazzling 134-run victory was just what the doctor ordered for the Windies, sending a loud message through this clinical performance. The Windies will be happy with their bowlers, who looked sharp, and batsmen, who returned to form. Uganda faces a depressing task ahead. A miracle turnaround is what they’ll be desperately hoping for if they are to move forward in this event.
