Red Horse FC Charges Into Rolling Challenge Cup Semi-Finals After Dramatic Tiebreaker Winbhai
Mechinagar, Kartik 6 — In a pulsating quarterfinal clash at the 8th Rolling Challenge Cup, Red Horse FC clawed their way into the semi-finals after a thrilling tiebreaker victory over Koshi Police Club, clinching the match 3-1 on penalties at the Dhulabari MaBi Ground.
The match began with Koshi Police taking an early lead when Ramesh Rajbanshi netted the opening goal in the 20th minute. However, Red Horse FC, known for its resilience, fought back late into the game. Pradip Budhathoki stepped up in the 75th minute to deliver the crucial equalizer, keeping Red Horse’s hopes alive as the game ended 1-1 at full-time.
With the quarterfinal hanging in the balance, the game went to penalties, where Red Horse dominated, thanks mainly to a heroic performance from their goalkeeper and captain, Bibek Magar. Magar made crucial saves in the shootout and was named Player of the Match for his efforts. He was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a trophy, presented by Chief Guest Narendra Kumar Khadka, alongside other notable figures such as Homanath Bhandari and sports enthusiast Rajan Chimaria.
Red Horse FC’s victory sets up an exciting run towards the Cup. The first semi-final tomorrow will feature tournament hosts Rolling Club against Samrat Sporting Club of Biratnagar.
The final is scheduled for Kartik 10. The champions will pocket Rs 3 lakh, while the runner-up will take home Rs 1.5 lakh. Each match’s Player of the Match will also earn Rs 5,000 in cash, adding to the excitement of the tournament, which is estimated to cost over Rs 35 lakh to organize.
If everything goes according to plan, Red Horse FC will be just two matches away from lifting the coveted trophy.
