Nepal Crushes Sri Lanka 6-0 to Secure Semi-Final Spot in SAFF Women’s Championship

Nepal has advanced to the SAFF Women’s Championship semi-finals with an impressive 6-0 victory over Sri Lanka, marking their seventh appearance in the tournament’s final four. The win secured Nepal the top position in Group B with seven points, surpassing Bhutan on goal difference, despite both teams being level on points.

Nepal’s offensive strength was evident throughout the group stages. After a goalless draw against Bhutan, they trounced the Maldives 11-0, setting up a tight race for group leadership. Bhutan also crushed the Maldives 13-0 but couldn’t match Nepal’s overall goal tally, finishing second in the group.

Rekha Poudel scored twice to lead Nepal’s charge in the decisive match against Sri Lanka. Sabita Ranamar, Sabitra Bhandari, Amisha Karki, and Rashmi Ghising added a goal. Rana Magar was named Player of the Match for her all-around performance in attack and midfield.

Nepal now prepares for a crucial semi-final clash against India, the Group A runner-up. India started with a 5-2 win over Pakistan but suffered a 3-1 loss to Bangladesh, setting up an exciting semi-final against Nepal. Bhutan, meanwhile, will face Group A winners Bangladesh in the other semi-final.

Nepal will aim to maintain its momentum as it pursues the championship title.
