Home team Secures Eighth Rolling Challenge Cup in Nail-Biting Finale

The Rolling Club has clinched the prestigious title of the eighth International Invitational Rolling Challenge Cup, defeating Maney Bhanjyang FC, Darjeeling, in a thrilling tiebreaker showdown. After a tense match, the home team saved their crown, ultimately sealing a 3-1 victory in the tiebreaker against Maney Bhanjyang.

The match saw its first major breakthrough in the 42nd minute, as Rolling’s star forward Rohan Karki netted a crucial goal. Maney Bhanjyang fought back with equal tenacity, and captain Sonam Jangpo levelled the score at 1-1 with a well-timed strike in the 66th minute, setting up a suspenseful finish from the penalty spot.

Rolling’s makeshift goalkeeper, Yuvraj Puri, proved the hero in the final tiebreaker. His standout performance earned him the “Player of the Match” honours, a cash prize 5,000, and a trophy.

As champions, Rolling Club took home 300,000 in prize money, a trophy, and medals, while runners-up Maney Bhanjyang received 150,000 and medals.

Individual accolades were also plentiful for Rolling, with Abhishek Baral named Best Goalkeeper, Semant Thapa hailed as Outstanding Defender, and Utsav Rai crowned the tournament’s Highest Scorer. Other notable awards went to Rohan Karki, who earned the “Best Player of the Tournament” honour and a cash prize of 15,000, and Niraj Karki, who was recognized as the Emerging Player. Maney Bhanjyang’s Robert was awarded Best Midfielder, and Rolling Rolling’s head coach Sachindra Dhimal was lauded for his coaching excellence.

Dignitaries present to celebrate the team’s achievements included Provincial Assembly Member Gopal Tamang, Arjundhara Mayor Baldev Gomden, and prominent figures from the Nepal Industry and Commerce Federation Narendra Khadka. Club President November Nembang, alongside Club Vice President Indra Angdembe, treasurer Laxman Baniya and Secretary Mahesh Khadka, led the well-attended award ceremony.
