Nepal Secures Historic Spot in ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup with Victory Over UAE

Nepal’s women’s U-19 cricket team made history by securing a spot in the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup for the first time. The team made history following an impressive eight-wicket victory over the UAE in the Asia Qualifiers’ final.
This victory means Nepal finished the qualifiers with 10 points from six games, matching UAE’s total but edging ahead based on a higher run rate. Nepal’s success throughout the qualifiers has highlighted their competitive spirit and unwavering determination.
In the climactic match, UAE batted first, setting a modest target of 84 runs after opting to bat. Despite a promising start, UAE struggled to maintain momentum and ended with 83 runs for nine wickets in their 20 overs. Samaira Dharanidharka led UAE’s batting with 31 runs, and Rinitha Rajitha contributed 20. However, Nepal’s bowlers dominated, with Karishma Gurung taking four wickets to dismantle the UAE lineup, supported by Riya Sharma and Seema KC with two wickets each and Rachna Kumari Chaudhary with one.

Nepal’s chase of 84 was steady and confident. Sana Pravin led the way with an unbeaten 35, while captain Pooja Mahato added 21. Contributions from Soni Pakhrin and Sabitri Dhami helped Nepal clinch the victory in just 14.4 overs, with eight wickets remaining. UAE’s Mehek Thakur took both wickets for her team, but Nepal’s calm pursuit was unstoppable.
Throughout the qualifiers, both teams delivered standout performances. The UAE achieved dominant victories over Kuwait, winning by 106 and 184 runs, and triumphed over Thailand with wins by 74 runs and 9 wickets. Nepal’s path was equally impressive, with victories over Kuwait by 108 and 165 runs and over Thailand by 67 and 106 runs.
This landmark victory qualifies Nepal for Malaysia’s ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup, scheduled for January 18 to February 2. This momentous achievement represents a new milestone for Nepal’s women’s cricket, setting the stage for their global shine.
