The Birtamod Jhapa Cup, debuting at the Domalal Rajbanshi Stadium in Birtamod, Jhapa, is set to become a significant event for football enthusiasts in Nepal and India. Scheduled from Mangshir 29 to Poush 8, this knockout tournament, organized by the renowned Jhapa-11 Football Club, will bring together ten elite teams from both nations to compete for the coveted title.
With final arrangements in motion, the organizers have confirmed an enticing prize pool. The winning team will receive Rs 10 lakh and an impressive trophy, while the runners-up will earn Rs 5 lakh alongside their own trophy. These stakes underscore the tournament’s commitment to high-level competition and excellence.
This event holds particular significance for the local football community in Jhapa, where a scarcity of B Division competitions has left players longing for opportunities to shine. “This tournament is a chance to rekindle the competitive spirit of our players and deserved quality football for Jhapali fans to witness,” said Jhapa-11 president Jal Kumar Gurung, expressing optimism for the initiative. The Club’s estimated budget is 9 million, and the participant team has yet to finalize because of football tournaments running over the country.
The press conference was organized on Monday, and Ganesh Pokhrel welcomed the media on behalf of the organizing committee. He also shared aspirations for long-term player development and plans for preparatory tournaments through its sister organization, Jhapa Football Club. These efforts aim to ensure players are well-prepared for upcoming challenges, fostering growth at the grassroots level. The Club appointed vice president Keshab Raj Dahal as tournament coordinator. Club secretary CM Khanal mediates the meeting.
