Jhapa and Birgunj Share Points in Goalless Draw

The Nepal Super League (NSL) encounter between Jhapa FC and Birgunj United on Friday ended in a thrilling 0-0 draw, leaving both teams with a share of the points. The match played at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar, saw both teams display solid defensive performances and miss several scoring opportunities.

Despite dominating the game’s early stages, Jhapa FC could need a helpline on their chances. Ochilov’s 12th-minute shot rattled the post, while Suraj Bista’s long-range effort failed to find the target.

Birgunj United threatened on occasion, with Laxman Ruchal’s 32nd-minute shot being saved by Deep Karki. Subhas Gurung’s header in the 39th minute was also comfortably handled by Karki, ensuring the score remained level at halftime.

The second half continued similarly, with both teams searching for a breakthrough. Birgunj United were unfortunate to hit the post twice, first through Kripakant Mahato and then through William Asedu, but Jhapa goalkeeper Stefan Cupic was on hand to make crucial saves.

Jhapa’s hopes of securing a win were dealt a blow in the 73rd minute when Yogesh Gurung was shown a red card for a foul, leaving them one man down. 89th minute Tej Tamang’s free-kick struck the crossbar.

Birgunj almost stole the win in stoppage time when Ujjwal Rai’s shot also crashed against the crossbar. However, neither team broke the deadlock, resulting in a goalless draw.

The result leaves Jhapa FC in seventh place with three points from four matches, while Birganj United remains at the bottom of the table with two points from the same number of games.
