Butwal Lumbini FC Conquer Kathmandu Razors in Thrilling NSL Encounter

Butwal Lumbini Football Club (BLFC) emerged victorious in a captivating showdown against defending champions Kathmandu Razors FC (KRFC), clinching a thrilling 2-1 win in their second encounter of the Nepal Super League (NSL) season 2.

Butwal Triumphs with Crucial Goals

Goals from Stephan Samir Binong and captain Eric Bista paved the way for Butwal’s victory, while Rajiv Lopchan’s lone goal for Kathmandu proved inadequate to alter the outcome.

Butwal Climbs the Table, Kathmandu Suffers First Defeat

Butwal’s triumph propelled them to the third position in the league standings with seven points from five games. Meanwhile, Kathmandu faced their first defeat, slipping to the fifth spot with five points from four games.

Controversial Moment Ignites Match

The game unfolded with a controversial moment in the 26th minute. Shokhrukh from Kathmandu found the net, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside call, sparking a heated exchange on the field.

Butwal Takes the Lead and Doubles the Advantage

Butwal quickly seized the lead just three minutes later. Stephan Samir Binong capitalized on a defensive lapse by Kathmandu, taking advantage of goalkeeper Abhishek Baral’s inability to control Saroj Tamang’s free kick. Binong’s initial shot was blocked, but the rebound fell kindly to him, allowing him to slot the ball into the net.

In the 37th minute, Butwal’s goalkeeper Mohmodu made a crucial save to deny Shokhrukh’s attempt. The first half concluded with Butwal nearly doubling their lead as Eric’s free-kick rattled the crossbar.

Second Half Sees a Dominant Butwal Performance

The second half saw Butwal extend their lead further in the 61st minute. Captain Eric Bista skillfully directed the ball into the net from a pass by Gelespijung, solidifying their grip on the match.

Kathmandu’s Comeback Efforts Fall Short

Despite Kathmandu’s efforts to stage a comeback, their attempts proved futile. Goalkeeper Mohamodu saved Shokhrukh’s shot in the 79th minute, and Rajiv Lopchan and Nkengue Junior missed crucial opportunities in the closing minutes.

In injury time, Rajiv Lopchan scored a consolation goal for Kathmandu, but it was too late, as Butwal secured a well-deserved victory.
