APF Edges Past Sankata in Thrilling Jhapa Gold Cup Opener

Birtamod, Nepal: The sixth edition of the Jhapa Gold Cup kicked off dramatically as APF Football Club secured a narrow victory over Sankata Football Club Kathmandu through a penalty shootout (4-2) following a gripping 1-1 draw at the Domalal Rajvanshi Stadium.

APF’s journey to victory was paved by goals from Dipesh Dhimal, Fode Fofona, Kuldeep Karki, and Suman Shrestha, showcasing their clinical finishing against a determined Sankata side. Chandan Das and Yaman Bahadur Putwar found the net for Sankata, but their efforts fell short in the penalty shootout.

The encounter was tense, with both teams showcasing their tactical prowess and fighting spirit. APF goalkeeper Angel Shrestha emerged as the hero, pulling off crucial saves throughout the match and earning the Player of the Match award for his impeccable performance.

The tournament continues on Sunday with the highly anticipated clash between Nepal Police Club and the reigning league champions, Church Boys United Kathmandu. The winner will claim the prestigious title and a hefty cash prize of 13 lakhs and etch their name in football history.
