Tribhuvan Army Books Semi-Final Berth in Thrilling Jhapa Gold Cup Encounter

Jhapa, Nepal – In a nail-biting display of football, defending champions Tribhuvan Army FC secured a coveted semi-final spot in the prestigious sixth Jhapa Gold Cup, sending their fans into a frenzy at the local sporting arena.

The Army faced the experienced Machhindra Football Club in an intense match, ultimately emerging victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.

Machindra drew first blood early in the 11th minute, with their foreign star Stephen Binong finding the back of the net after a well-placed pass from Hisub Thaplia.

But the resilient Army squad refused to go down without a fight. Star striker Navayug Shrestha restored parity in the 61st minute, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.

The momentum shifted in the Army’s favour when Basant Zimba netted the winning goal in the 81st minute, securing their passage to the semi-finals.

The defeat was a heartbreaker for Machhindra, who aimed for a hat-trick of titles after their recent triumphs in the KP Oli Cup and Bagmati Gold Cup.

Despite creating numerous chances, including a near-miss by Navayug in the seventh minute and a shot off the post by Ayush Ghalan in the 80th minute, Machhindra couldn’t find a way past the determined Army defence.

Basant Zimba, who shone throughout the match, was named the Player of the Match and received his award from dignitaries like former Chief Minister Hikmat Karki.

Army coach Meghraj KC praised his team’s blend of experience and youth, highlighting their unwavering determination to lift the Jhapa Gold Cup trophy.

Meanwhile, Machhindra coach Santosh Neupane acknowledged a slight lapse in concentration by his midfield and defence but commended his players for their efforts.

With the remaining quarter-final clash between Jhapa 11 FC and Anfa Makwanpur set to take place, the Jhapa Gold Cup promises to deliver another exciting chapter in its captivating story. Only time will tell which team will emerge victorious and claim the coveted trophy and cash prize.
