Jhapa Xi Crushes Makwanpur to Book Semis Berth in Gold Cup

Jhapa Xi FC put on a dominant display at the Domalal Rajvanshi Stadium, thrashing Anfa Makwanpur 5-1 to book their place in the coveted Gold Cup semi-finals.

The home side was clinical in front of the goal, with Aditya Shakya, Pradeep Budhathoki, Babin Bohra, Ashish Chapagain, and the in-form Mark Jr Harrison all scoring. Oscar grabbed a consolation goal for Makwanpur, but it was a mere blip in a night that belonged to Jhapa.

Shakya opened the scoring in the 25th minute, expertly converting a pinpoint through ball from Chapagain. Harrison doubled the lead in the 66th minute with a powerful header, showcasing his aerial dominance.

Makwanpur threatened a comeback when Oscar pulled one back in the 69th minute, but Jhapa, showing their resilience, quickly extinguished any hopes of a fightback. Budhathoki, who came off the bench, restored the two-goal advantage in the 83rd minute. Bohra and Chapagain then added gloss to the scoreline with two goals in injury time, leaving Makwanpur with no response.

Jhapa now set their sights on a thrilling semi-final clash against the winner of the highly anticipated match between departmental giants Tribhuvan Army Club and APF FC. Meanwhile, Church Boys stand in their way in the battle for a place in the finals.

Shakya was named Player of the Match for his influential performance, and the team expressed their gratitude for the unwavering support of the home crowd. Coach Ankur Kumar Khadgi hailed the fans’ support and vowed to fight for the championship title.

On the other hand, Makwanpur coach Ashok Baral rued the absence of key players, hampered their preparations and ultimately led to their downfall.

The excitement continues to build as the Gold Cup reaches its business end. The champions will be crowned on Falgun 28th, taking home a whopping Rs 13 lakh cash prize and the coveted trophy, while the runners-up will walk away with Rs 7 lakh. The stage is set for a grand finale, promising to bring the curtain down on a captivating tournament.
