Nery Thapa Magar, a trailblazer and cornerstone of Nepali women’s cricket, has decided to retire after an illustrious 17-year career. The former captain, who was instrumental in ushering the team onto the international stage for the first time, announced her retirement via social media on Monday.

Magar’s retirement marks a significant turning point for Nepali women’s cricket. Hailing from Banke, she captained the side in their historic debut at the 2007 ACC Women’s tournament, narrowly missing out on the title after a heart-wrenching defeat to Bangladesh in the final.

Despite consistent domestic performances for the APF Club, Magar has found herself on the fringes of the national team in recent years. The emergence of young talents and a growing emphasis on fitness standards have limited her playing opportunities.

Nonetheless, Magar’s legacy remains etched in Nepali cricket history. Her unwavering dedication spanned over a decade, with notable achievements, including victories in the ACC U19 Women’s Championship in 2008 and 2010.
