Japan Defeats Norway 3-1 to Reach FIFA Women’s World Cup Quarterfinals

Japan advanced to the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over Norway on Saturday in Wellington, New Zealand.
Risa Shimizu and Hinata Miyazawa scored two goals for Japan, while Guro Reiten scored the lone goal for Norway.
Japan took the lead in the 15th minute when Ingrid Engen scored an own goal. Norway equalized in the 20th minute through Reiten, but Shimizu put Japan ahead again in the 50th minute. Miyazawa added a third goal for Japan in the 81st minute to seal the victory.


Japan finished top of Group C, while Norway finished second in Group A. The two teams were evenly matched throughout the match, but Japan was able to take advantage of their chances and come away with the victory.
Spain also secured a place in the quarterfinals on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Switzerland.
