Benfica Defeats Porto 2-0 to Win Portuguese Super Cup

Benfica won the Portuguese Super Cup for the ninth time on Wednesday night, defeating arch-rivals Porto 2-0. The match was played at the Municipal de Aveiro Stadium in Aveiro, Portugal, and was a closely contested affair.
Benfica took the lead in the 61st minute through Argentine star Angel Di Maria. Di Maria, who joined Benfica this season from Paris Saint-Germain, scored with a powerful shot from outside the box.
Benfica doubled their lead in the 68th minute through Croatian player Petar Musa. Musa, who was also making his debut for Benfica, scored with a header from a cross by Di Maria.

Porto was reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute when defender Pepe received a second yellow card for a foul on Di Maria. Benfica took advantage of their numerical superiority and controlled the remainder of the match.
The win boosts Benfica ahead of the start of the new season. The Lisbon club will be looking to challenge the Primeira Liga title this season, and the Portuguese Super Cup win is a good start.
