Manchester City Start New Season With a Win

On Friday, Manchester City kicked off their 2023-24 Premier League campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Burnley. Erling Haaland scored two goals in the first half, and Nathan Ake added a third in the second half.

Haaland scored in the third minute, finishing off a well-worked team move. Rodrigo ran down the left wing and crossed the ball to Kevin De Bruyne, who laid it off to Haaland for a simple finish.

Haaland doubled City’s lead in the 36th minute, latching onto a cross from Kyle Walker and firing a low shot into the bottom corner. De Bruyne was injured in the 21st minute, but City continued to dominate possession and create chances.

Rodrigo made it 3-0 in the 75th minute, heading home a corner from Oleksandr Zinchenko. Burnley had a chance to pull a goal back late on, but Ederson saved Maxwel Cornet’s penalty. The win was a perfect start for City, who are looking to defend their Premier League title this season. Haaland was in excellent form and will significantly threaten opposing defences this season. City will now face Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
