Newcastle United kicked off their 2023-24 Premier League campaign in style, thrashing Aston Villa 5-1 at St. James’ Park on Saturday night.
The Magpies were in control from the start and took the lead in the sixth minute through Sando Tonali. Moussa Diaby equalized for Villa in the 11th minute, but that was as good as it got for the visitors.
Alexander Isak scored two goals in 10 minutes to put Newcastle in control, and Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes added further goals in the second half to seal a comprehensive victory.

Isak was the show’s star, scoring two well-taken goals and providing an assist for Wilson. The 23-year-old Swedish striker is one of Europe’s most exciting young players, and he will be a significant threat to Premier League defences this season.

In other Premier League matches on Saturday night, Brighton beat newcomer Luton 4-1, Fulham beat Everton 1-0, Crystal Palace beat Sheffield United 1-0, Arsenal beat Forest 2-1, and Bournemouth and West Ham drew 1-1.
