Lionesses Stun Australia 3-1 to Reach World Cup Final

England made history on Wednesday, reaching their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup final with a 3-1 win over hosts Australia in Sydney.
Ella Toone, Lorraine Hemp, and Alessia Russo scored for England, while Sam Kerr replied for Australia.
England took the lead in the 36th minute through Toone, who fired home from close range after a neat lay-off from Beth Mead.
Kerr equalized for Australia in the 63rd minute, but Hemp restored England’s lead eight minutes later with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

Russo then put the game to bed in the 86th minute, finishing a flowing move involving Mead and Chloe Kelly.
The victory is a significant milestone for England, who have never previously reached the final of the Women’s World Cup. They will face Spain in the final on Sunday, with the winner claiming the title.
England’s route to the final took work. They had to come from behind to beat Colombia in the quarter-finals, and Australia pushed them to the semi-finals.
But they showed their resilience and their quality on Wednesday, and they will now be confident of lifting the trophy on Sunday.
