Nepal’s World Cup Dream Dashed by Thailand

Nepal’s dream of reaching the global qualifiers for the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup was dashed by Thailand on Friday, as the latter won the first semi-final of the Asia Region Qualifier by 46 runs.
Chasing a target of 106 runs, Nepal were bundled out for just 59 in 19.3 overs. Only Kabita Kunwar (11), Apsari Begam (10) and Kabita Joshi (10) reached double figures for Nepal, as the rest of the batting lineup struggled against the Thai bowlers.

Onnicha Kamchomphu and Thipatcha Puthawang were the pick of the bowlers for Thailand, taking three wickets each. Nataya Buchtham, Fanita Maya and Sunida Chaturangarat took one wicket each.
Earlier, Thailand had won the toss and elected to bat. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scored for Thailand with an unbeaten 59 off 63 balls, while Nathakan Chantham made 31.
Kabita Kunwar and Pooja Mahato took one wicket each for Nepal.
With the win, Thailand has secured a place in the global qualifiers for the World Cup, while Nepal will now have to wait for another opportunity to qualify for the tournament.
