Colombo, Sri Lanka – India claimed their eighth Asia Cup title with a dominant 10-wicket victory over hosts Sri Lanka in the final on Sunday.

Chasing a modest target of 51, India openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kisan raced to victory in just 6.1 overs without losing a wicket. Gill scored 27 off 19 balls, while Kisan contributed 23 off 18.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 50 in 15.2 overs, their second-lowest total in ODI history. Only two Sri Lankan batsmen, Kusal Mendis (17) and Dushmantha Hemantha (13*) reached double figures.

India’s bowlers were in devastating form, led by Mohammed Siraj, who claimed six wickets for 21 runs. Hardik Pandya also chipped in with three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah took one.

The victory was India’s first in an Asia Cup final since 2018, and it marks a fitting end to a successful tournament for the Men in Blue. They had finished the Super 4 stage with a perfect record, winning all four matches.

Siraj Skittles Sri Lanka

Siraj was the show’s star for India with the ball, producing a sensational spell of bowling to put Sri Lanka on the back foot from the start. He had Kushal Perera caught behind off the third ball of the match and then proceeded to rip through the Sri Lankan middle order.

Siraj’s victims included Pathum Nissanka, Charitha Aslanka, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dasun Shanaka. He finished with six wickets for 21 runs in seven overs, with one maiden.

India Openers Put on a Show

India’s openers Gill and Kisan made light work of the chase, putting on a 51-run partnership for the first wicket to seal the victory in style. Gill was particularly aggressive, hitting six fours in his knock of 27. Kisan also played well, hitting three fours in his 23-run knock.

India’s victory in the Asia Cup final was a testament to their dominance in the tournament. They had finished the Super 4 stage with a perfect record, winning all four matches.

The Men in Blue will now turn their attention to the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, where they will look to add another title to their trophy cabinet.
